Islamabad United defeated Quetta Gladiators by 63 runs in the 13th match of the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) on Friday at the National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi.
Choosing to bat first, Islamabad set a massive 221-run target before bowling out Quetta for 157 in 19.1 overs, thanks to a sensational batting display by Azam and a great bowling performance.
Quetta struggled to find momentum in response to the large total, losing quick wickets.
Mohammad Hafeez, a veteran all-rounder, played a crucial innings, scoring 48 runs off 26 balls to help a struggling Quetta get back on track.
With his innings, Hafeez shared a 69-run fourth-wicket stand with skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed.
However, the batter was dismissed in the 11th over by Afghan pacer Fazalhaq.
The Gladiators then lost their captain, Sarfaraz, who scored 41 runs off 26 balls before being bowled out by Shadab.
In the same over, Islamabad skipper Shadab struck again, sending Mohammad Nawaz back to the pavilion.
Iftikhar Ahmed tried to take command, but he couldn’t get things going. Before being out by Hasan Ali, the right-handed batter scored 39 runs on 27 balls.
Odean Smith, Mohammad Hasnain, and Naseem Shah were all dismissed within five deliveries.
Fazalhaq Farooqi, making his debut, destroyed Martin Guptill with a brilliant in-swinging delivery. The New Zealander flew away in search of a golden duck.
Abrar Ahmed, the mystery spinner, struck in the second over, trapping Jason Roy (5) for an LBW.
Later, Will Smeed was bowled out on the first ball of his second over, reducing Quetta to 23-3. The young English batter appeared to be in good form, but he only managed 17 runs.
Fazalhaq and Hasan Ali each took three wickets for Islamabad, while Shadab and Abrab each took two.
Earlier, Azam Khan shone as Islamabad United set a massive 221-run target against Quetta Gladiators.
Azam scored 97 runs in 42 balls, with nine boundaries and eight maximums.
Following the Gladiators’ quick wickets, Azam and Asif Ali hit boundaries to bring Islamabad United back into the game.
Azam and Asif put on a sensational 98-run fifth-wicket partnership off just 45 balls to put their team back in the game.
