Tina Turner fell victim to a scam that led the public to believe she had died, but in reality, she is still alive and well.
Why is ‘Tina Turner dead’ trending?
A video was uploaded to YouTube by the Celebrity Biographies channel with the caption: “eight minutes ago At the age of 83, music legend Tina Turner passes away. It hurts too much.”
Before many realised it was a fraud, this produced a flood of heartfelt tributes.
It turned out that the YouTube account had published additional videos stating that famous people had passed away in order to get views and likes on their page.
Among the other A-list celebrities who were the subject of the prank were Whoopi Goldberg, Kate Winslet, and Will Smith.
When did ‘Tina Turner dead’ start trending?
On Sunday, January 22, 2023, after the aforementioned YouTube video was posted, word of her “death” quickly spread online.
Another Facebook page, R.I.P. Tina Turner, read: “Our great singer Tina Turner passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2023, at about 11.am ET.
“Tina Turner was born on November 26, 1939 in Nutbush. She will be missed but not forgotten.
“Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page.”
On Monday, January 23, Tina Turner’s representatives officially confirmed that the singer was in fact alive.
They posted: “She is alive and well, stop believing what you see on the Internet.”
