G Herbo admitted to using stolen identities to pay for private planes, a villa in Jamaica, and “designer puppies,” and he now faces up to 20 years in prison. He also admitted to lying to federal agents about how he did it.
Charges:
Rapper G Herbo from Chicago was charged with lying to federal agents and using stolen identities to purchase “designer puppies,” a Jamaican home, and private jets. He agreed to plead guilty to federal wire fraud charges in Massachusetts. He now risks serving years in jail.

The prosecution filed a plea agreement outlining the terms of the deal in that court on Wednesday, the same day Herbo, whose real name is Herbert Wright III, was called to appear in court in Springfield, Massachusetts as a result of his recent arrest on a weapons charge in Chicago.
The judge must still approve the potential plea deal, more than two and a half years after the Tribune first revealed that Wright had been charged with conspiring to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. The charge of lying to agents was included in a different indictment from 2021.
Despite the fact that the maximum sentence for the crime of wire fraud is 20 years in prison, Wright would most likely receive a sentence in the two- to three-year range under federal sentencing guidelines. That knowledge is still being uncovered.
On July 27, a preliminary date was set for a plea hearing before U.S. District Judge Mark G. Mastroianni.
Wright, 27, of the South Side neighborhood known as “Terror Town,” along with five other people, including promoter Antonio Strong, were accused of using stolen identities to make up to $1.5 million in fictitious purchases of goods and services, including private jet travel, a personal chef, a vacation at a Jamaican villa, and puppies from a Michigan company.
Wright vehemently denied all accusations when they were first made against him. He actually debuted a brand-new song and music video mocking the government probe in late 2020, as well as one celebrating his rise from the seedy South Side streets to global fame.
The allegations state that in November 2018, Wright misled a federal investigator about his friendship with Strong, a Chicago rap promoter who is alleged to have been the scheme’s mastermind.
Wright was charged with a misdemeanor and unauthorized use of a weapon a day after being taken into police custody, according to court records, and released on bond.
According to court records, Wright was granted permission to continue to be free on bond in his federal case after appearing before a federal magistrate in Massachusetts on Wednesday.
