Devil in Ohio, a new limited-run thriller series on Netflix, may not be as spooky as you think.
The eight-episode series stars Emily Deschanel of Bones as Dr. Suzanne Mathis, a psychiatrist who briefly invites a mysterious adolescent named Mae, played by Madeleine Arthur of To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, into her house after finding her and bringing her to the hospital. Suzanne, however, deduces that Mae was a member of a risky cult as strange things start to happen in the house while Mae is a guest. And based on the trailer, maybe she still is.
Author Daria Polatin recently discussed whether or not the inspiration for the show was based on a genuine story because it is based on her book of the same name. Set off the frights.
Is Devil in Ohio based on a true story?
Absolutely, it is! The producer of the television show, Rachel Miller, approached Polatin with the real-life incident that prompted her to write the book first, according to Polatin, who also acts as showrunner for Devil in Ohio.
According to Polatin, who spoke to the source, “the bones of the tale are factual and happened, and I wanted to take that as a jumping-off point.” Although it is based on real events, it is not a documentary. Simply said, that is a distinct form of narrative. I believed that the best way to deal with it would be to creatively liberate it, fictionalise the specifics, and allow it to take on a life of its own.
She noted that the genuine tale “did take place in Ohio,” but she would not provide any further information on what it was.
You now have it, just in time for those who want to mark the beginning of the spooky season when the calendar turns to September.
