In September of this year, Apple is anticipated to introduce the iPhone 15 series, featuring the newest technological advancements and aesthetic updates. Although the anticipated release of the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max models is still months away, there are almost daily reports of leaks and rumors about the devices on the Internet. The upcoming lineup will support the new Qi2 wireless charging standard, which is based on Apple’s MagSafe technology, according to a recent report. The next-generation international wireless charging standard, Qi2, was unveiled by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) at CES 2023.
The most recent iPhone models currently support 7.5W and 15W wireless charging. Apple supports faster wireless charging of up to 15W with MagSafe-certified chargers, while non-MagSafe wireless chargers support up to 7.5W. According to the report, the upcoming iPhone 15 will support up to 15W wireless fast charging using Apple’s MagSafe technology and the new Qi2 charging standard. This means users will no longer need to use the MagSafe charger to achieve 15W fast wireless charging speeds.
Since Apple’s MagSafe module costs about $16 wholesale, retail prices have increased as a result. According to reports, the new Qi2 wireless charging module is less expensive than the MagSafe module by less than one-third, and the manufacturers are not required to be approved by Apple’s “MFi” (Made for iPhone) program. According to reports, this would make wireless charging accessories more affordable and quick.
All iPhone models that support wireless charging are said to work with the Qi2. Apple has not yet endorsed the charging standard’s speed, though.
The iPhone 15 series is set to become available in September. To comply with a European Union law, Apple will replace the traditional Lightning port with a USB Type-C port in this year’s iPhone lineup. Dynamic Island is said to be standard on all models in the new lineup. The A16 Bionic chip is expected to power the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, while the A17 Bionic SoC is expected to power the Pro models.
