The most awaited iPhone 14 is launching today, and our Apple event live blog will be covering all the announcements from the launch event. We lready have a clear idea of what to expect thanks to a steady drumbeat of iPhone 14 rumors.

The regular iPhone 14 should resemble the iPhone 13 to some extent, while we anticipate some enhanced features and specifications compared to the existing variants. In addition to the 6.1-inch iPhone 14, a larger 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max (or iPhone 14 Plus) with many of the same specifications is likely to be released.

The iPhone 14 Pro models are anticipated to include a more extensive overhaul, allegedly doing away with the iconic display notch in favour of a new cutout. The iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max are also expected to feature an upgraded 48MP main camera, a new A16 Bionic CPU, and perhaps an always-on display.

iPhone 14 expected price and release date

You can stop guessing when the iPhone 14 will be formally unveiled. Today, September 7, Apple will hold an event, and since the event’s theme is “Far Out,” we’ve speculated on what it might imply for the iPhone 14.

Devices are anticipated to go on sale September 16 according to Bloomberg(opens in new tab), which properly predicted the product event on September 7 in advance. Pre-orders for the iPhone are anticipated to open on September 9, which would be a few days after the Apple event.

The price of the iPhone 14 Pro versions has been predicted to increase by about $100, but in exchange, they may provide 256GB of beginning storage rather than 128GB (this rumour has been contested by a more recent analyst report). As a result, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max may both reach $1,099 and $1,199, respectively.

Does Apple have a good reason for this $100 price increase on the iPhone 14 Pro models? We’ve thought about what Apple might do to make the iPhone 14 Pro a fair value for the additional cost.

According to a claim made by Twitter leaker Dohyun Kim, the price of the normal iPhone 14 will remain at $799, while the larger iPhone 14 Max is believed to cost $899. According to leaker yeux1122, some models may even see price drops, which would be a very pleasant surprise.

Naturally, all of these costs assume that you purchase the iPhone outright. A subscription plan for the iPhone may potentially be announced by Apple today, allowing you to pay in instalments and use one iPhone for a limited time.

Older iPhone models frequently reach their end of the line when a new one is released, with the iPhone 13 mini appearing to be the most likely candidate. As a result, we looked into which iPhone models might be dropped when the iPhone 14 debuts.

Thanks to renderings published by leaker Jon Prosser, we’ve been hearing clues of a design change for select iPhone 14 models since last year, shortly before the iPhone 13 launch.

The ordinary iPhone 14 should resemble its predecessor in terms of appearance; however, the iPhone 14 Pro versions are expected to have a somewhat different appearance due to a new iPhone 14 notch.

The display notch is anticipated to be removed from the Pro versions in favour of two cuts, one for the front camera and the other for the Face ID sensors. But all of this can turn out to be false—sort of.

One tipter claims that the area between the two camera modules will contain LEDs to let you know when your camera or microphone is on. A new round of purported leaks currently has the iPhone 14 Pro scheduled to get a single pill-shaped display cutout.

The two cutout asymmetry never felt like an aesthetic Apple would pursue, thus this would not only look far better than dual cutouts but also make a lot more sense from a design standpoint. And in our opinion, the new notch replacement that is rumoured is wonderful news.

Check out our overview of what to expect from the iPhone 14 notch for a more thorough explanation of the notch design changes. In essence, the basic model won’t see many changes, but the Pro phones will see a significant difference. According to a recent patent application by Apple, the iPhone 14 Pro could feature a no-notch display.

And indeed, that implies that none of the iPhone 14 versions are anticipated to enable Touch ID. That won’t hurt as much as we had anticipated because with iOS 15.4, Apple improved Face ID’s ability to identify a genuine person even when they are wearing a mask. Apple may have avoided the necessity for fingerprint-centric biometrics because it functions extremely well.

According to certain blueprints, the elevated camera array on the iPhone 14 Pro variants will be significantly larger. That’s because a larger module is required to hold a 48MP camera, claims analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. It doesn’t appear likely that the basic iPhone 14 will have a set of flush cameras based on the renderings we’ve seen.

A more recent tip seems to display allegedly leaked images of the iPhone 14 Pro, potentially verifying many of the previously circulated design rumours. Additionally, we see a look of the upcoming iPhones’ probable colour schemes.

The normal iPhone 14 is expected to be followed by the iPhone 14 Max, while the Pro versions appear to provide the most intriguing design. In order to give users a larger iPhone without making them shell out a lot of money for the iPhone 14 Pro Max, this model is anticipated to have a larger 6.7-inch display.

However, not everyone is convinced that this is a smart idea; in fact, one Tom’s Guide writer hopes Apple would keep the iPhone small rather than replace it with the iPhone 14 Max. And despite the hoopla, one editor advises against purchasing the iPhone 14 Max in favour of one of the Pro models.

One persistent rumour is that the iPhone 14 will support USB-C connectivity. With a USB-C iPhone not arriving until late 2023, most likely with the iPhone 15, it now appears that the iPhone 14 series will continue to use the Lightning connector.

The SIM tray is another element that might be removed from the iPhone 14 altogether. It appears that Apple will provide incentives for people to stop using their SIM cards and switch to using their iPhones with an eSIM. On some iPhone 14 versions, SIM trays should still be present, but it appears like Apple is aiming to do away with them totally with the iPhone 15.

According to one source, the standard Midnight, Starlight, and Product RED colour selections will still be available, but a lighter sky blue will replace the present blue.

Regarding the iPhone 14 Pro, a Chinese leaker said that this year’s new colour option would be dark purple in addition to the traditional Graphite, Silver, and Gold Pro iPhone colours.

We anticipate a change in the iPhone 14 lineup, with the normal iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro reportedly sporting 6.1-inch displays, while the iPhone 14 Max/Plus will supposedly feature a 6.7-inch screen alongside the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Thus, the 5.4-inch iPhone mini is no longer produced.

According to a Shadow Leaks leak, the iPhone 14’s display will measure 6.08 inches (rounded up to 6.1 inches), and the iPhone 14 Max’s display will measure 6.68 inches (rounded up to 6.7 inches). The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro Max share this specification. The Pro models, however, may be growing a little bit bigger due to new bezels, increasing in size from 6.12 inches to 6.69 inches, respectively.

Given that the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max feature displays with 120Hz refresh rates, it would be amazing to see all iPhone 14 models have screens with similar refresh rates. These screens would probably be made with LTPO panels or a development of those panels that could scale down to 1Hz.

The iPhone 14 Pro is expected to have an always-on display thanks to this utilisation of panel technology. According to tech tipsters, the iPhone 14 Pro will finally get the always-on display that has been long rumoured to be a feature for the next generation of iPhones. It will reportedly be used to show “weather, calendars, stocks, activities, and other data” on the lock screen, with a low refresh rate helping to preserve battery life.

iPhone 14 cameras

According to recent speculations, the normal iPhone 14 won’t receive a significant camera improvement; instead, a typical Apple insider claims non-Pro versions will retain their 12MP cameras. However, if this is the case, we may anticipate Apple to have made software improvements to the next-generation iPhone’s photographic capabilities as well as adding more camera-focused features to iOS 16.

All varieties of the iPhone 14 are rumoured to receive an enhanced front-facing camera, claims Apple expert Ming-Chi Kuo.

But the largest camera improvements are likely to come with the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max. It’s possible that a 48-megapixel main camera is in the pipeline to take photographs with greater clarity and better light management. This would indicate that for Apple, megapixels are once again important.

With an upgraded sensor reportedly measuring 1.4 micrometres, the iPhone 14 Pro’s ultrawide camera is also expected to receive an upgrade over the iPhone 13 Pro’s 1.0-micrometer pixels. Since larger pixels are better at catching light, the sensor performs better in low light conditions. Additionally, given that Apple’s September 7 launch event is titled “Far Out” and appears to have a space theme, it’s possible that the company may highlight the new ultrawide camera’s excellent astrophotography and night photography capabilities.

iPhone 14 chipset and battery life

iPhone 14 chipset and battery life

The iPhone 14 is rumoured to retain the A15 Bionic chip, but the iPhone 14 Pro models are anticipated to receive a new A16 chip (something the iPhone 15 series may also do too).

If you’re curious about how much additional power the A16 might provide, several benchmarks that have leaked may be able to provide some insight. However, we contend that the inclusion of the A15 Bionic in the iPhone 14 won’t be a terrible thing because of how powerful it is, and that you shouldn’t discount the normal iPhone 14 models just because they may not have a silicon upgrade.
