Vision Zero, a new mixed-reality headset from Apple that costs a hefty $3,499, made quite a splash at the Worldwide Developers Conference. However, Apple’s product presentation on Monday featured some other noteworthy announcements.
When iOS 17, the newest version of their operating system, goes live in September, users of the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch will be able to use a variety of new features that were unveiled by the tech giant. While users won’t be able to use these features until the fall, here is a sneak peek.
- Leave messages on FaceTime: If their calls to other FaceTime users go unanswered, iPhone users will now be able to leave video voice messages for them. The recipient will be notified, and they can watch the video message again whenever they like. In the era of video chat, it is analogous to leaving a voicemail.
- Enhancements to autocorrect: Users of iOS 17 can anticipate improved autocorrect functionality. Apple has improved word prediction on their devices by incorporating a more sophisticated language model. Even commonly misspelled words will be learned by the keyboard, saving users from having to constantly apologize for autocorrect errors.
- Live voicemail transcription: You won’t have to worry about debating whether to pick up a call or let it go to voicemail. Live voicemail transcriptions are a feature that was added to iOS 17 that enables users to view real-time transcriptions of incoming voicemails on their iPhone lock screens as the messages are being recorded. Users can use this feature to determine whether or not to respond based on the voicemail’s contents.
- Live stickers: Apple customers can now easily turn the photos of their loved ones, friends, and pets into stickers using live stickers. These stickers make amusing additions to chats because they can be easily accessed from a new sticker drawer and customized with various effects.
- Features that can be shared by tapping: NameDrop allows contact information to be transferred between two iPhones or between an iPhone and an Apple Watch. Users can also easily share music, videos, and other content between Apple devices by using the tap-to-share gesture.
With the goal of improving user experience across Apple devices, these new features will make communication and interaction easier and more enjoyable.
