Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), the nation’s flag carrier, has announced a special deal for its domestic customers as Pakistan prepares to commemorate its 76th year of independence.
PIA tweeted that all of its domestic flights scheduled for August 14 would be 14 percent cheaper.
A spokesperson for the airline referred to this offer as a “heartfelt gift” from Pakistan’s national carrier to its citizens in honor of Independence Day.
Another development is that on July 4th, PIA will operate the first international flight to Skardu Airport from Dubai.
After the initial flight, the airline will operate weekly flights on Saturdays from Dubai to Skardu and Tuesdays from Skardu to Dubai.
According to the airline’s spokesperson, the Dubai-Skardu flight will leave for Islamabad later to accommodate the passengers.
After launching direct flights from Lahore, PIA began flying nonstop from Karachi to Skardu in June. On June 3, the initial Lahore-Skardu flight departed.
Since the runways at Gilgit and Chitral airports are too short for long-haul flights, Skardu Airport is the only airport in northern Pakistan that can accommodate large aircraft.
Skardu Airport was given the status of “international” in December 2021 by former prime minister Imran Khan, but it was unable to reach its full potential because it lacked a suitable refueling facility for international flights.
Now that the issue has been fixed, the refueling station is scheduled to open tomorrow, August 11, making way for the airport’s first international flight.
