Shoaib Malik, a seasoned all-rounder, has asked Pakistan’s selection committee to pick right-handed batter Iftikhar Ahmed for the men’s ODI team.
In the just finished Bangladesh Premier League, Iftikhar was in excellent form and scored his first T20 century. In a recent exhibition game between Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators, the right-handed batter also blasted left-arm bowler Wahab Riaz for six sixes in one over.
The all-rounder stated that Iftikhar may play a significant role in Pakistan’s ODI team in the future 2023 World Cup in India at a post-match news conference on Tuesday.
“I would want to use this occasion to ask that Iftikhar Ahmed be included in the Pakistan ODI team. I have watched him play, and from what I can tell, he is playing some pretty solid cricket as we approach the ODI World Cup. We need a batter like him at that position in ODIs because of the position he plays.”
Malik also stressed that he is enjoying playing the game’s shortest version and has no plans to play it in its lengthier variations.
“I want to be clear that I’ve retired from playing Test and ODI cricket. I don’t concentrate on such forms,” he said.
“In T20 format, I’m still accessible, and my responsibility is to deliver. I want to represent Pakistan once again, but I have no expectations of anyone. Before I stop playing T20, my goal is to achieve 15,000 runs. I want to enjoy playing cricket until then,” Added he.
