The Karachi East District Municipal Corporation (DMC) has shut down the Imran Khan Cricket Ground in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal neighborhood of Karachi because of unauthorized “commercial activities.” The cricket field, named after PTI chairman and former Pakistan captain Imran Khan and built with funds from former PTI lawmaker Alamgir Khan, was initially intended to be a public park where locals could spend time with their families.
Locals filed complaints, claiming that the ground was actually being used for commercial purposes. The DMC East acted in response and sealed the building. The name of the ground was not approved by the district council, so as part of the enforcement, the name boards were taken down and the DMC East took over the property.
The general public will be able to enter the ground for free after local authorities take control.
