Five wildfires across California have claimed the lives of two additional persons in addition to the mother and daughter who were killed.

After attempting to flee the Fairview Fire in the town of Hemet on Tuesday, Ian Matthew Compton and his daughter Mikayla Porter were found dead in their car. Tina Compton, who sustained serious burns to her face, back, and arms, is anticipated to live.

The brother of Compton’s wife, Tim Chitwood, told NBC LA that “they started taking off, and I believe they had car troubles.”

According to Chitwood, a neighbour who works as a firefighter was able to save his sister from the burning car but was unable to save the other passengers.

He described the dramatic and heartbreaking sight, saying, “The firefighter opened the door, and then they grabbed her out and pulled her away.” “The flames just came so near, it completely swallowed the automobile,” the witness said.

In the little hamlet approximately 80 miles north of Los Angeles, the fire started on Monday amid triple-digit temperatures.

Only 5% of the fire’s 19,377 acres had been contained as of Wednesday.

The origin of the fire was being looked into. According to the Los Angeles Times, Southern California Edison informed the California Public Utilities Commission that “circuit activity” had taken place just before the fire was detected.

It’s unknown whether human error was the source of the incident, and more information on what precisely that circuit activity entailed is still pending.

The Mill Fire in Weed, California, located 280 miles north of San Francisco, is the other devastating fire. Authorities are investigating if a water-spraying device designed to cool ash at the veneer mill of Roseburg Forest Products Co. malfunctioned, causing the hot ash to ignite the fire last Friday.

Unidentified ladies, ages 66 and 73, perished in the fire, which also forced hundreds of people to flee. 107 structures were demolished, while 26 more were damaged. At its largest, the fire spanned six square miles and was 65% contained as of Wednesday.

Roseburg issued a statement in an apparent attempt to dissociate itself from the fire, attributing it to machinery made by a “third-party supplier.”

A $50 million fund has also been established to aid those affected by the fire and to help the town be rebuilt.

In a press release, Roseburg Forest Products stated that their mill generates its own power using a co-generation plant that burns wood waste. The ash that is expelled is then sprayed with cooling water by a “third-party-supplied machine,” Roseburg Forest Products added.

According to the announcement, Roseburg is looking into whether a third-party machine’s insufficient cooling of the ash caused it to catch fire.

Roseburg stated that its fund will help locals with short-term housing, medical equipment and care, transportation, clothing, food, and water, and child care services.

The Radford Fire fueled by stands of wood south of the Big Bear Lake resort area spread smoke east of Los Angeles onto ski runs in the San Bernardino Mountains.

Since being discovered by a US Forest Service helicopter team on Monday afternoon, the fire has grown to a size of 1.5 square miles. Only 2% of it was contained.

As the day-old Mosquito Fire in the Sierra Nevada mountains spread to over 6.5 square miles with 0% containment, Placer and El Dorado counties issued evacuation orders and advisories.

Near the little Gold Rush settlement of Michigan Bluff, a number of buildings and at least ten vehicles were set on fire.

The historic community of Michigan Bluff is currently in danger due to the fire.

The Mountain Fire covered an area close to the Oregon border.
