When Disney+ offers IMAX Enhanced streaming of Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder, there will be even more love and thunder. The Marvel Studios film, which makes its streaming service debut on September 8 for Disney+ Day, joins the 15 previous Marvel Cinematic Universe films that are also accessible to watch at home in IMAX’s enlarged aspect ratio. Thor: Love and Thunder is the most recent title in a lineup that also includes Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Shang-Chi, and Avengers: Endgame. Disney+ subscribers who stream this film at home in IMAX’s 1.90:1 aspect ratio will see up to 26% more picture for certain sequences, increasing the amount of action visible on screen.
Thor: Love and Thunder will be accessible under the “Versions” tab on the movie’s main page, along with the other 15 films, in both the widescreen and IMAX enhanced formats. On Disney+ enabled devices, the IMAX Enhanced version is accessible to all subscribers and will automatically play.
Iron Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man and The Wasp, Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame, Black Widow, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Eternals, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness are among the 15 Marvel Studios films currently accessible to stream in IMAX Enhanced.
IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond stated that the partnership with Disney and Marvel Studios is “giving the fans what they want: the most immersive viewing experience throughout the life of a Marvel Studios film, from exclusive theatrical release to the library at home where they can now watch the Avengers assemble with more picture than ever before” when the collaboration was first announced for last year’s inaugural Disney+ Day.
“With IMAX Enhanced, IMAX and technology partner DTS will enable content that can be viewed in-home with the highest fidelity, which ensures that filmmakers’ creative intent is fully optimized for an IMAX-quality presentation,” the streamer said in a release. “Disney+ is the first major streaming service that will elevate the at-home viewing experience with IMAX Enhanced, rewarding its subscribers with new ways to re-experience the Marvel Cinematic Universe and beyond.”
Thor: Love and Thunder, one of the new Disney+ original movies premiering worldwide on September 8, is directed by Taika Waititi and stars Chris Hemsworth as the titular God of Thunder, Natalie Portman as the Mighty Thor, Tessa Thompson as the New Asgard King Valkyrie, and Christian Bale as the evil Gorr the God Butcher. Other titles include She-Hulk: Attorney at Law Episode 4 and Assembled: The Making of Thor: Love and Thunder (see the complete list of Disney+ Day debuts).
The God of Thunder (Hemsworth) embarks on a journey of self-discovery in Thor: Love and Thunder that is unlike anything he has ever experienced. But a killer from another galaxy known as Gorr the God Butcher (Bale), who wants to wipe out the gods, interrupts his work. King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi), and his ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Portman) join forces with Thor to defeat the menace. To Thor’s amazement, Jane Foster mysteriously holds his mystical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they set out on a perilous cosmic quest to unravel the truth behind the God Butcher’s retaliation and put an end to him before it’s too late.
