Messaging yourself on social media is not as absurd as it may seem. It has been a feature of programmes like Messenger, Instagram, and Slack for a while. Users may now message themselves inside of WhatsApp thanks to a recent upgrade.

Given that Meta also controls WhatsApp, the “message yourself” function has to eventually appear in the programme. Many users use this function to input data that they must memorise, such as a shopping list or a daily to-do list. Additionally, you can save your position within the chat for later use. Users are far more likely to review their notes and lists as they access their messaging applications numerous times per day. Users can also quickly search through their communications to find any messages they have saved, or in this case, notes to themselves.

Those who access WhatsApp via WhatsApp Web on their laptops will be able to sync their messages and notes across all of their devices, further enhancing the convenience of the instant messaging service. Disappearing Messages, which lets users send messages that disappear after a certain period of time, can also be used to add time-sensitive reminders. The time can range from 24 hours to 90 days, which makes it perfect for adding reminders that expire after a set amount of time. Users won’t have to deal with the trouble of individually deleting each message or reminder.

Meta is undoubtedly raising WhatsApp’s messaging capabilities to the level of its other platforms, whether you use it to leave yourself encouraging messages or memorise crucial information. Use your smartphone to test out the new WhatsApp feature, or go to https://web.whatsapp.com to do so. The most recent update should have distributed the feature to all users.
