No matter how straightforward or complicated the OEM or “genuine” parts are, automakers are notorious for charging exorbitant prices for them. The same is true for the makers of bicycles.
A recent Facebook post by Horsepower Pakistan demonstrates Yamaha’s irrational pricing practices. In the image, a man is seen holding a single metal nut that is wrapped in a clear plastic bag.
The bag has an absurd price tag from Yamaha attached to it: Rs 160. The image has drawn scorn and rage from internet users.
A single metal bolt like the one in the image typically costs no more than Rs. 50. Although Yamaha has priced the bolt absurdly high, in keeping with its tradition and the industry as a whole.
Yamaha sold 841 bikes in April 2023, a 50.4% decrease from the previous month’s sales. Although the cause of the sharp decline has not been officially identified, experts believe that in addition to production difficulties, the exorbitant prices are to blame.
Sales are likely to stay slow in the coming days due to ongoing economic and operational problems, despite market rumors suggesting the restoration of imports and production for the auto industry.
