By demonstrating how to paint beautiful landscapes for PBS network viewers, ART legend Bob Ross made his TV debut.
The Joy of Painting, which aired on the network for almost a decade, was both created by and hosted by the artist.
How did Bob Ross pass away?
On July 4, 1995, Bob Ross passed away as a result of complications from lymphoma.
The 52-year-old kept his illness a secret from the public, and only his close friends and family were aware of it before his passing.
Bob had previously experienced two heart attacks and had triumphed over his first bout with cancer.
In Gotha, Florida’s Woodlawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home, the late artist is laid to rest.
Numerous visitors and admirers of his work have left flowers, art materials, paintings, and trinkets with a natural theme on the plaque over Ross’s grave.
Did Bob Ross have any kids? Was he married?
Over the course of his life, Bob Ross was married three times.
In 1965, he got married for the first time to Vivian Ridge.
Robert Stephen Ross, the couple’s only child, became a painter like his father, following in their parents’ footsteps.
Ross and Vivian divorced in 1977, allegedly as a result of Ross’ adultery. The year after divorcing Vivian, the painter moved on and wed Jane Ross.
Prior to her death from cancer in 1992, Jane and Ross were married for 15 years without bearing any children.
Ross wed Lynda Brown three years later. When Ross passed away on July 4, 1995, Lynda became a widow.
Steve Ross is well known for being the legendary painter’s only child.
Like his father, Steve went on to pursue a career as a professional artist, and some claim that he may even be superior to the illustrious painter himself.
What has made Bob Ross famous?
Ross was a well-known artist and art teacher. The majority of his future paintings will be set in Alaska, where he was stationed while serving in the US Air Force.
During his lunch breaks, Ross started learning quick painting techniques, and he also enrolled in an art class at the Anchorage U.S.O. club.
He learned about the Bill Alexander-hosted TV program The Magic of Oil Painting while working as a bartender.
Ross developed his style and started creating and offering for sale portraits of Alaskan landscapes.
After some time, the artist went back to Florida and started working with Alexander.
Ross was a classmate of Annette Kowalski, who supported Ross financially by encouraging him to strike out on his own.
Bob Ross Inc. was founded by Ross, his wife, and Kowalski after they amassed a sum of money.
He received his own show on PBS as a result of his popularity rising.
Ross is thought to have created 30,000 paintings in his lifetime, the majority of which are still in the possession of Bob Ross Inc.
