Last night, Game of Thrones viewers were greeted with the House of the Dragon debut on HBO and HBO Max. The series introduces us to the Targaryens at their apex and is set 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke). The issue of who will succeed King Viserys I (Paddy Considine) on the Iron Throne when he inevitably passes away is the only issue confronting the Targaryens in this period, aside from bothersome back sores associated to the Iron Throne. Will his misbehaving brother Daemon (Matt Smith) be responsible? Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock), the spirited daughter? Or perhaps the male heir Viserys saw in his dreams?
House of the Dragon will be consumed by the succession issue, as HBO’s “Weeks Ahead” trailer has hinted at. HBO has released a first-season teaser for House of the Dragon instead of a promo for Episode 2. As you can anticipate, there is a lot of blood, fire, and dragons. There are significant spoilers for what’s to come, though, if you closely examine each frame.
House of the Dragon’ Episode 2 And Beyond Teaser Trailer
The House of the Dragon first season trailer, which is two minutes and thirteen seconds long, is jam-packed with tonnes of first season material. Rhaenyra on Syrax enters Dragonstone, shocking Otto Hightower and his soldiers (Rhys Ifans), as the film opens. Rhaenyra the child’s voiceover Then we see some terrifying scenes of maids running, someone “Free Solo-ing,” and shadowy people. Young Rhaenyra speaks slowly in the voiceover, stating, “From my blood come the prince that was prophesied, and his will be the song of ice and fire.”
The next few images include a supercut of a man standing in a cave with fire behind him, a carriage making its way to a crumbling castle (which might be Harrenhal? ), Corlys Velaryon (Steve Touissant) looking nervous, a young Alicent (Emily Carey), and a figure we haven’t yet met. As we transition to a scene of Rhaenyra at sea with a dragon alongside her, Viserys replaces the voiceover. The weight of this knowledge, according to Viserys, is greater than the throne. As Viserys continues, “It is larger than you,” we first see two individuals on a seashore before an elder Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) enters the picture.
The trailer then turns to a young Alicent staring menacingly at Rhaenyra as she prays in front of candles, followed by views of Daemon Targaryen, Viserys smashing down some doors, and an elderly Rhaenyra gazing over the ocean.
The line “Men will sooner put the realm to the torch than watch a woman ascend the Iron Throne” is spoken by Rhaenys (Eve Best) when Daemon and Otto square off at Dragonstone. She is speaking to Rhaenyra, a young girl. The older Rhaenyra declares, “I shall be queen of the Seven Kingdoms,” while there is a supercut of the royal godswood, some type of council meeting, and a man nailing another guy to some driftwood. As Alicent (Olivia Cooke) responds, “You may do as you please when I am cold in my tomb,” we see older images of Rhaenyra and Alicent.
Towards this time, the iconic catspaw dagger-wielding Alicent makes a lunge at Rhaenyra in the sequence that has been replayed in the trailers. (Book readers already know the outcome, but I won’t give it away here.) Then, as shown in other trailers, Rhaenyra and Daemon are seen together as Daemon declares, “Dreams didn’t make us kings; Dragons did.”
The scene cuts to a dragon hovering over King’s Landing, Criston Cole (Fabian Frankel) sporting a knightly aspect, and Rhaenyra reaching for the catspaw knife as the older Alicent utters, “The people remember the ancient strength of House Targaryen.” Unknown party is presented with a crown by an arbitrary knight.
The scene turns to Otto Hightower telling an elder Alicent, “No king has ever lived that hasn’t had to forfeit the lives of a few to safeguard the many,” after we watch Rhaenyra riding a horse in an aggressive manner through the woods. The destruction on a beach is then shown in the trailer. A close-up shot shows crabs scuttling toward what appears to be a dead hand.
Then, in front of the Iron Throne, Viserys is yelling at a Daemon with short hair. You are no conqueror, Viserys says, putting the dagger to Daemon’s throat. You are a curse. Rhaenyra dancing at a lavish feast is then cut to. Our households are united by a single goal, according to Corlys. A short glimpse of young kids (which we’ll get to) is shown, along with a guy and a pregnant woman standing in front of a bonfire. Blood is also seen trickling from two clutched hands.
