Online users have access to a wide variety of information on the internet that may inspire both excitement and terror. A recent video showing a skier who was caught in an avalanche is just one example of the perilous videos that frequently make their way onto social media sites. The injured skier, Owen Leeper, documented the terrifying incident in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, using a helmet camera and posting it online.
Leeper had a terrible experience on February 11th while skiing in the backcountry close to Jackson Hole Ski Resort, which he documented on Instagram. He explained that he had looked at the weather before leaving and wasn’t very concerned about the possibility of an avalanche because it had been many days since the previous storm and the sky was clear. The snow beneath his skis began to collapse as he kept skiing in the gulley, and things rapidly became dangerous. Fortunately, Leeper avoided serious harm and managed to ride the avalanche as it rolled downhill rather than being buried by the rubble.

“Once I hit the first rock I knew I had to keep my feet under me, for the rock in the middle was about to hit, my skis launched me into the wall, I was able to get my hands up and catch myself before hitting my face, likely popping my shoulder out at that time. I tried hard to keep my feet below me, knowing I had another rock band to clear. Miraculously I bounced over the last section of rocks into the snow,” described in the post description.
But, he quickly came to rest after hitting the wall and discovered that his shoulder was severely dislocated, sending excruciating pain down his arm and shoulder. He required rapid aid from the neighborhood search and rescue team, who flew him out of the hazardous icy terrain.
“I came to a stop and all the snow flushed down further, I knew right away my shoulder was out, but was amazed nothing else hurt. I radioed up to @lostlawyer for help, and he skied around to me,” he said further.
