An attack that the police are currently investigating resulted in the unfortunate death of a 15-year-old girl by stabbing.
Friends of Holly Newton, 15, who passed away on Friday, January 27, gave her the name Holly and hailed her as a “lovely” child in the community.
At the location of the stabbing in Hexham, Northumberland, tributes and flowers were left, and on Priestpopple, close friends and relatives left a variety of bouquets.
After Holly, also known as Holly Olivia, passed away, a fundraising was started to support the family; it has already surpassed its £3,000 goal.
Notes were also left among the tributes, with one from the teen’s mother reading: “To our baby Holly. Our hearts hurt so much right now. We love you so much. Love mam and Lee. See you soon beautiful.”
Another tribute left by her grandmother read: “All ways loved never forgotten. Your never be out of our thoughts. All our love nana and granddad.” [sic]
Officers from Northumbria Police revealed that a boy and a teenage girl had been transported to the hospital with wounds received in an assault; Holly tragically passed away from her wounds.
Additionally, the 16-year-old suffered grave but non-life-threatening injuries.
Northumberland Police detailed the investigation, in a series of tweets which read: “A murder investigation has been launched after a 15-year-old girl tragically died following a suspected assault in #Hexham.
“Shortly after 5.10 pm on Friday police were alerted by ambulance service to a report of a teenage boy & girl injured in the Priestpopple area.
“Emergency services attended where the boy and girl – aged 16 and 15 – suffered serious injuries consistent with having been caused by a bladed article. Sadly, despite best efforts of hospital staff, the girl passed away later that evening.
“Both of their families are being supported by specially-trained officers at this devastating time. Our thoughts are with all loved ones at this awful time, and we are supporting them in every way we can.”
