From the International Space Station (ISS), Saudi astronauts Ali Al-Qarni and Rayyanah Barnawi conducted an educational experiment with Saudi high school students. Students had the opportunity to compare the results of the “heat transmission” experiment and communicate with the astronauts as they investigated how heat moves differently in microgravity than it does on Earth.
Heat travels more slowly in space, as the experiment demonstrated. A space kite experiment was also carried out by the astronauts with 12,000 middle school students in an effort to pique their interest in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
The Saudi Space Commission and other partners have organized these interactive experiments with the goal of enhancing student abilities and advancing the growth of the space industry in the Kingdom. Another experiment looked at how colored fluids behaved both in space and on Earth.
