A pregnant Lebanese woman who refused to undergo an abortion and was severely assaulted and set on fire by her husband on Wednesday passed away in the hospital.
At Al-Salam Hospital in northern Lebanon, where she had been admitted for the previous 11 days, Hana Mohammed Khodor, 21, lost her battle for life.
Khodor was admitted to the hospital on August 6 and was being treated for burns all over her body, a hospital doctor revealed on Tuesday.
He added that her unborn child died in the womb and had to be surgically removed, and described Khodor’s chances of survival as “very bleak.”
Abdul Rahman Haddad, a family friend, informed Arab News that Khodor passed away on Wednesday. Her body had already been claimed by her relatives, according to a hospital official who confirmed the information.
According to reports, he said that the couple, who were from a low-income family and lived in Tripoli in northern Libya, couldn’t afford to rear the child.
Khodor’s aunt told Al-Jadeed TV on Tuesday that her nephew brought her home and lit her on fire with a gas cylinder after she refused to abort the child.
A. A. was detained by Lebanese Internal Security Forces as he attempted to exit the country, according to Haddad.
Khodor’s family made several requests for financial assistance before she passed away to help cover the cost of her hospital care, which included numerous operations and blood transfusions.
