A junior wrestler who won the national title passed away at the age of 16.
Hadeel Kohouli, a rising star in Tunisia, tragically drowned in an accident off the coast of the north-west.
Kohouli’s body was discovered during a search operation near Tabarka, so it is assumed that she was traveling by sea when the tragedy occurred. This morning, the depressing news was confirmed by the Tunisian Wrestling Federation.
“We learned today of the passing of Hadeel Kohouli, the honorable daughter of Tunisia and the champion of the national youth team and wrestler for the Mostaqbal Club, with all the meanings of sorrow and heartbreak.”
The Tunisian Wrestling Federation sends its sincere condolences during this difficult time. Kohouli competed in wrestling for the Mostaqbal Al-Reqab club in Sidi Bouzid and was a member of the Tunisian junior national team.
At the most recent African Championships, she had taken home bronze. Hammamet, Tunisia, served as the venue, and Kohouli performed there.
She took part in the women’s under-17 freestyle competition. In the U-17s, Kohouli was one of the 25 medal winners from Tunisia.
The gifted adolescent finished third in the 69kg competition. Yasmine Bouregba of Algeria won silver, while Joseth Sasa Mavungu of Angola won gold.
