The Sindh cabinet rejected the transport ministry’s proposal to raise Peoples Bus Service fares on Thursday.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, who presided over the cabinet meeting, rejected the proposal, stating that the PPP-led provincial government did not want to burden the poor by raising bus fares.
Furthermore, the Sindh cabinet approved Rs2 billion for the purchase of additional Peoples Bus Service buses.
It is worth noting that the Sindh government is currently running the Peoples Bus Service (PBS) in Karachi, Hyderabad, and Sukkur.
The bus service was first introduced in Karachi in June of last year by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. In Karachi, the bus service currently operates on five different routes, with additional routes proposed.
The Sindh government launched the country’s ‘first-ever’ Pink Peoples Bus Service in Karachi on February 1st, which will be exclusively for women.
Sharjeel Inam Memon, Sindh Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, recently announced new Pink People’s Bus Service routes in Karachi.
The transport minister announced on Twitter that the Sindh government has decided to launch two more routes of the Pink People’s Bus Service in Karachi beginning March 1.
