There have been rumors about Google’s upcoming foldable phone for months. This device has generated hype because it is anticipated to be the entry point for the search giant into a market already dominated by Samsung. The fact is that the foldable phone must function well given its small size and what is allegedly the strongest hinge yet. At the Google I/O conference, the launch date of the Google Pixel Fold was confirmed as May 10. Along with the Pixel 7a and Pixel Tablet, the smartphone will debut. Let’s delve into the specifics of the Pixel fold’s cost, features, and specifications.
Specs, Display & Design:
The phone’s design is not terribly surprising. The upcoming Foldable device will also feature a bar-shaped camera module on the back, continuing the search giant’s adoption of a bar-shaped camera module for its phones that was further improved with the Pixel 7 series.
The device has a shiny camera bar and a glass back panel on the back. The Pixel Fold, however, does not have an edge-to-edge camera bar. The smartphone’s bezels are indeed substantial. The fact that they are symmetrical on all four sides is significant, and ultimately, the screen’s aspect ratio will be most important. The unfortunate part is that the search engine giant doesn’t have to make room for a hole-punch camera or use under-display cameras, which can permanently distort the screen.
Let’s now discuss the hinge, which is the foundation of every foldable phone. According to rumors, the phone will employ a novel teardrop hinge mechanism to lessen the discernible display crease. Similar to the Oppo Find N2, the inner screen is tilted to have a more delicate fold angle. The device’s mechanism enables the Google foldable phone to close completely without any space remaining between its two halves.
The Pixel Fold will have 256GB of storage and be available in either white or black. It will be powered by Google’s own Tensor G2 chipset. According to reports, the device will have three cameras on the back: a primary 64MP Sony IMX787 sensor, a Samsung S5K3J1 telephoto lens with a 10.8MP resolution, and a 12MP Sony IMX386 ultrawide lens. It is anticipated that the front-facing selfie camera will be an 8MP Sony IMX355, along with a second Samsung S5K3J1 camera.
The Pixel Fold’s battery will have a capacity of 4,821 mAh and support 30W charging, according to a tip. The device will be powered by Android 12L, a tablet-specific and foldable version of the operating system. Now, if we talk about the pricing, the 256GB variant is expected to sell for $1,799 and will come in Chalk and Obsidian colors. The 512GB model, on the other hand, is said to only be offered in Obsidian and could cost around $1,919 instead.
