The Google Pixel 8 and Google Pixel 8 Pro are anticipated to go on sale later this year. The Pixel 7 series, which was released last year, is anticipated to be replaced by the Pixel 8 series. The Google Pixel 7a and the Google Pixel Fold were recently unveiled at an event by Google called I/O 2023. However, the company is renowned for releasing its newest Pixel series flagship models in October of each year. Thus, the base and pro models of the Pixel 8 series are anticipated to go on sale at the same time this year. Currently, a new video leak makes it appear as though the more expensive Pixel 8 Pro might include a new temperature sensor.
The Google Pixel 8 Pro is anticipated to include an integrated infrared thermometer sensor. according to a report in collaboration with tipster Kuba Wojciechowski (@Za_Raczke). The video allegedly demonstrated the new feature in-depth but has since been removed from YouTube due to copyright concerns. The article included screen captures from the exposed video.
The Pixel 8 Pro model appears to have a similar design to its predecessor, the Pixel 7 Pro, but there are a few changes that were allegedly made to accommodate the new sensor. The display panel of the upcoming smartphone is seen with the recognizable center-aligned hole-punch slot to house the selfie camera. The smartphone is expected to have a 6.7-inch screen.
However, the phone’s back panel is visible with a few minor camera array changes. In contrast to the three cameras in the Pixel 7 Pro model, which were divided into two separate units—one large unit for the main and ultra-wide camera and another for the periscope telephoto unit—the triple rear camera unit of the Pixel 8 Pro is seen bundled together in a horizontal pill-shaped module on the currently popular camera bar. Just below the LED flash, which is situated next to the camera pill on the bar, is where the new sensor can be seen.
It is anticipated that the white infrared temperature sensor will function as a contactless thermometer. The temperature sensor should be moved as smoothly as possible toward the user’s forehead after they tap the start button on the thermometer app or feature, according to the report. The user must be cautious to prevent the sensor from making contact with the skin while also making sure that the skin on the forehead is not blocked by any third party, such as hair or makeup accessories.
The Pixel 8 Pro phone will vibrate to let the user know that the measurement is finished after the sensor has taken about 5 seconds to read the temperature. The temperature can then be viewed on the phone by the user.
Notably, the report claims that because the built-in temperature sensor needs additional hardware adjustments, this feature will only be available with the Pixel 8 Pro model. According to reports, the Android Private Compute Core will be used to operate on and store the thermometer’s data locally in the phone. According to the report, the sensor can also be used to gauge the temperature of other inanimate objects.
According to rumors, an internal Tensor G3 chipset based on the Samsung Exynos 2300 will power the Google Pixel 8 Pro. The company hasn’t yet made an announcement regarding the chipset, though. The Tensor G2 SoC used in the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro models, as well as the most recent Pixel 7a, Pixel Tablet, and Pixel Fold, is anticipated to receive a significant upgrade.
The upcoming Pixel 8 Pro model is also expected to come equipped with a 50-megapixel 1/1.12-inch Samsung ISOCELL GN1 camera sensor, which is said to produce better photos overall and better low-light images than the cameras used in earlier smartphones.
