Earlier this week, at the company’s I/O event, Google Pixel 7a and Pixel Fold were introduced. The premium Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro smartphones served as inspiration for the new design language used by the Pixel 6a successor. The Pixel 7a is powered by Google’s own Tensor G2 SoC and has a 64-megapixel dual rear camera setup. A 4,385mAh battery is also included. The Pixel 7a and Pixel 7 are quite similar in appearance and some hardware features, but they are different in terms of price, storage capacity, and other factors.
Let’s compare the Google Pixel 7a to the Pixel 7 from last year to understand the fundamental differences between the two smartphones.
Differences:
Display:
Pixel 7a and Pixel 7 both run Android 13. In terms of display, the new device has a 6.1-inch full-HD+ OLED display with a refresh rate of 90Hz. The Pixel 7 has a 6.32-inch full-HD+ (2,400 x 1,080 pixel) OLED display with a refresh rate of 90Hz. Google’s second-generation Tensor G2 SoC and 8GB of RAM power the Pixel 7a and Pixel 7.
Cameras:
In terms of cameras, the Pixel 7a and Pixel 7 have a dual camera setup. The Pixel 7a camera unit consists of a 64-megapixel primary camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) and a 13-megapixel ultra wide-angle sensor. It can record 4K video at 60 frames per second (fps).
The Google Pixel 7 camera setup consists of a 50-megapixel primary sensor and a 12-megapixel secondary sensor with an ultra-wide-angle lens. The Pixel 7a has a 13-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and video chats, while the Pixel 7 has a 10.8-megapixel front-facing camera.
Storage:
While the Pixel 7 has two storage options with up to 256GB of built-in storage, the Google Pixel 7a offers 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
Features:
Both phones have nearly identical sensors and connectivity options. Both Pixel phones have in-display fingerprint sensors for authentication in addition to the face unlock feature.
Battery and Charging:
The 4,385mAh battery in the Pixel 7a supports wireless charging. The Pixel 7 has a 4,355mAh battery and supports both fast wired charging and wireless charging. Both models have received Qi wireless charging certification.
