Google has disclosed its intention to add a blue checkmark next to some senders’ names on Gmail in order to confirm their legitimacy.
The business noted in a recent blog post that it had previously introduced Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) in Gmail, which requires senders to employ strong authentication and confirm their brand logo in order for it to be displayed as an avatar in emails.
This development is related to the media attention that blue checkmarks have received, mainly because of Twitter’s old accounts. Blue checkmarks are used in Gmail by Google, but they have different functions.
Only businesses that have opted in to use Gmail’s current BIMI feature will see the new feature displayed next to them. Google stresses that this update will help users tell apart messages from legitimate senders and potential impersonators. Google wants to equip users and email security systems to effectively identify and prevent spam by utilizing strong email authentication.
Additionally, this authentication procedure helps senders build reader trust and gives them an immersive experience, both of which improve the email ecosystem as a whole.
