Genesis Escobar, the victim, is a 21-year-old woman who is thought to have planned the robbery with her boyfriend.
Escobar was shot in the shoulder, back, and hand in Chicago, Illinois, according to police. They had just climbed into a parked car.
The victim’s boyfriend was reportedly seen by a witness taking some of the money that had been dumped and running away while his pregnant girlfriend lay dying on the ground.
Escobar was taken to the hospital and later declared dead. Her unborn daughter also passed away.
Iris Alvarez, an acquaintance of Escobar’s who lived close by, claimed the victim had visited her daughter there around 1 pm, just before she was killed.
Later, Ms Alvarez told told CBS: “She texted my daughter and told my daughter: ‘Please help me! I’m in trouble!’
“But my daughter was sleeping.”
Four gunshots, the sound of their friend being killed, woke the two up.
Alvarez continued: “They looked out the window and seen that the vehicle – someone opened the driver door, walked around the vehicle, pulled the body out, and drove off.”
The victim was on probation for a misdemeanour battery conviction and had recently been arrested several times.
She was also charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, a felony. According to court records, additional theft and drug possession accusations had been dropped.
Police are still looking but have not yet made any arrests.
