Luca Bish and Gemma Owen met on the season of Love Island this year, and now they’ve broken up, the former Love Island contestant has said.
In the ITV villa, where they came in second place behind winners Davide Sanclimenti and Ekin-Su, the reality stars fell in love with one another.
Luca had proposed to Gemma in August, but they didn’t make their relationship public until after the conclusion of the television show.
Three months after leaving the villa, however, the couple had broken up, despite Gemma’s insistence that it was for the best.
On Wednesday night (November 16), Michael Owen’s daughter announced on Instagram that the couple had broken up, adding that it “wasn’t an easy decision.”
Gemma wrote: “To all my followers, I wanted to let you know that Luca and I are no longer in a relationship. It wasn’t an easy decision but ultimately this is what is best for us both right now.”
She added: “Many of you have been on this journey with us from the very beginning, and I want to thank you for your continued support as we start new chapters.”
The veteran of the villa concluded, “Love always, Gem x.”
It happens after Luca attended a number of red carpet occasions without Gemma, including Tuesday’s glamorous and star-studded ITV Palooza.
It also comes after weeks of rumours that were dispelled by sources close to Gemma and Luca.
Paige Thorne, a fellow Love Island contestant, recently revealed that only two couples who left the villa are still together, suggesting that the others are only pretending to be in a relationship.
Recently, Gemma and Luca travelled to Dubai with Gemma’s family, which included her former footballer father Michael.
They were last seen together on November 5, when they dressed in coats to celebrate bonfire night.
After the series, certain couples, like Tasha Ghouri and Andrew Le Page, Dami Hope and Indiyah Polack, and Davide and Ekin-Su, are still going strong.
