A new initiative for free education was recently unveiled by Government College University (GCU) Lahore. This program is intended for people who genuinely love to learn.
‘Free Education for All’ will be a pilot project in the Institute of History during the upcoming Fall semester of 2023, according to a press release from GCU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi. The program will be extended to other departments in later phases.
This will give people the option to enroll in classes with a focus on learning rather than just pursuing degrees and grades. Participants will be free to choose courses from the university’s extensive selection of degree programs.
No grades will be given for the tests or assignments, and no official degrees will be awarded. Attendees will, however, have the opportunity to learn from faculty members who are extremely qualified.
Prof. Zaidi emphasized the importance of ensuring that everyone has access to education, regardless of their age, race, religion, educational background, or financial situation.
A police verification procedure, a university card costing Rs. 200, approval from the Chairperson and the instructor of the desired program or course are all requirements for enrollment in this program.
The Institute of Global and Historical Studies’ three departments of History, Art History, and Archive Studies will be the first to implement this initiative at the university. The program will, however, be made available to other departments beginning in the 2024 spring semester.
Prof. Zaidi expressed his belief that this strategy will revolutionize education. Students from various backgrounds will create a thought-provoking atmosphere in a single class, fostering mature discussions and facilitating a well-rounded educational experience.
