In the UAE, the price of gasoline and diesel has decreased significantly over the past year. According to Arabian Business, there has been a 42 percent decrease in fuel prices.
E-Plus 91 gasoline is priced at AED 2.81 per liter in July 2023, 36.7% less than it was in the previous year when it cost AED 4.44 per liter.
The cost of diesel has decreased even more. Compared to last month, diesel costs AED 2.76 per liter, down from AED 4.76. Thus, diesel is now 42% less expensive.
Other fuels, besides gasoline, have also seen their prices drop. Prices for Special 95 and Super 98 fuels have decreased by 36% and 35.2 percent, respectively.
The following table shows how fuel prices changed from July 2022 to July 2023:
Fuel Type | July 2022 Price (AED/liter) | July 2023 Price (AED/liter) | Reduction Percentage |
Special 95 | 4.52 | 2.89 | 36% |
Super 98 | 4.63 | 3.00 | 35.2% |

The dynamics of the world energy market have an impact on changes in gasoline prices throughout the year. The Fuel Price Committee of the United Arab Emirates meets every month to discuss price changes.
While diesel prices consistently fell each month in 2023, the price of gasoline fluctuated with monthly increases and decreases.
The Fuel Price Committee instituted price freezes in 2020, but they were lifted in March 2021 to coincide with the rise in oil prices around the world. It is significant to remember that the global trend in crude oil prices has an impact on the price of gasoline.
