Tragically, a “LOVELY” retiree was discovered dead at his home in a sleepy Somerset town.
Following the discovery of Frederick Burge’s lifeless body at his Glastonbury home, police have opened a murder investigation.
Around 12.30 pm on Sunday, emergency services were called to the 89-year-home old’s and discovered the situation.
A 41-year-old guy who was detained on murder suspicion was later released on police bail.
Following Mr. Burge’s passing, a number of condolences posted on social media referred to him as “beautiful,” among other things.
“Fred was a nice man, our prayers are with the family,” one former friend posted on social media.
Another wrote: “Thoughts are with the family, he was great friends with my late parents.”
Avon and Somerset Police said their thoughts were with Mr Burge’s family “at this extremely difficult time”.
They reassured locals in the quiet town that they were “working tirelessly” to “identify those responsible.”
Detective Inspector Neil Meade, from the Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT), said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with Frederick’s family at this extremely difficult time.
“Specially trained liaison officers are supporting them and will keep them updated as our inquiry progresses.
“A team of detectives are working tirelessly to establish exactly what happened to Frederick and identify those responsible for his death.
“Specialist crime scene investigators have carried out a forensic examination of the scene while we continue to review CCTV from the area.
“We understand people will be shocked by this incident and the neighbourhood policing team are carrying out high-visibility patrols to provide reassurance.
“Anyone with concerns or questions is encouraged to an officer or alternatively they can contact their local team.”
