On Thursday, R. Kelly’s former goddaughter testified in court in a devastating manner about the R&B icon, saying he had sex with her “hundreds of times” while she was a minor and made her pose as a prostitute to silence her.
During the fourth day of the singer’s federal child pornography trial, the now-37-year-old woman, only known as “Jane,” detailed how Kelly videotaped himself having oral sex with her at his Chicago home when she was 14 years old.
According to the Chicago Tribune, she claimed the discredited singer gave her champagne, told her to describe her genitalia as “14 years old,” and then urinated on her.
She testified that Kelly was seen giving her money before having intercourse with her in his wood-paneled jacuzzi room in a video taken around the same time.
Jane sobbed on the witness stand when a prosecutor asked her why the celebrity had given her money.
She explained, “He would say I was a prostitute if anyone saw the tape or if it was released for some reason.”
After that, Jane testified, the Grammy-winning artist had intercourse with her “innumerable times,” occasionally with other underage females Kelly asked her to recruit.
Later on in the trial, two of the other minor victims are anticipated to testify against Kelly. Jurors will also likely see video of the celebrity engaging in sexual activity with children.
According to the prosecution, the singer bought off Jane and her family to keep her quiet during his 2008 child pornography trial. In the end, he was found not guilty in that case.
The 13-count federal indictment against Kelly, 55, includes allegations of child pornography and obstruction of justice.
After being found guilty on nine charges, including racketeering and Mann Act violations, in Brooklyn federal court in June, he was given a 30-year jail sentence.
Numerous victims gave testimony during the 2021 trial, which saw Kelly portrayed by the prosecution as a “predator” who preyed on his young fans and sexually assaulted them for years.
