A 21-year-old influencer who was trying to lose 200 pounds quickly passed away.
The woman, known only as Cuihua, reportedly participated in a weight loss program in China that included rigorous exercise regimens and a restricted diet. According to the Shanghai Morning News, Cuihua would live broadcast her workouts to Douyin, the Chinese equivalent of TikTok, where she has 10,000 followers.
She allegedly admitted to losing 57 pounds in the first two months before losing an additional 23 pounds during the next six months.
She went to the hospital after feeling ill after working out, according to her parents, even though the cause of death has not yet been disclosed.
“Thank you to everyone for your support and love for Cuihua,” they said in a translated statement on Douyin.
“Our child has gone to heaven, and we are still processing all of this.
“Let our child rest in peace, thank you!”
They went on to note that Cuihua’s death didn’t happen at the fitness camp.
“It didn’t happen at the [training camp], please don’t cyber bully any more training camps, it’s over, we don’t want to be sad,” they continued.
