The entire family of a Chicago firefighter was tragically killed in the days following their house catching fire – a scene he rushed to after hearing his home address over the radio dispatch at his job last week.
Walter Stewart’s three children, all under the age of ten, and his wife died as a result of injuries sustained in Tuesday’s deadly fire.
Stewart did not initially respond to the fire, but after hearing his address over radio dispatch, he was quickly transported there and even administered CPR to his wife, according to the fire department.
Stewart’s 7-year-old son, Ezra Stewart, died on Wednesday, and his wife, Summer Day-Stewart, died on Thursday, both at the age of 36.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Stewart’s 9-year-old daughter Autumn Day-Stewart and his 2-year-old son Emory Day-Stewart died Friday at the hands of the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
According to reports, all four family members were affected by smoke inhalation.
Officials said they were all rescued from the burning house and rushed to the hospital.
According to authorities, the fire started in the kitchen and the cause is being investigated.
Stewart has agreed to donate organs from each family member to others who may need a transplant in the aftermath of the shocking deaths, a fire department source told the Sun-Times.
The Chicago Fire Department launched a fundraising campaign to assist Stewart’s family as they deal with a “unspeakable tragedy.”
“Please keep the Stewart Family in your thoughts and prayers,” the department wrote.
