One person was hurt when a fire broke out Saturday night at a 16-story building close to the Nursery stop on Karachi’s major thoroughfare, Sharea Faisal, according to officials.
Authorities reported the presence of more than 12 fire trucks, two snorkels, and numerous water tankers as well as two water bowsers to help with the water needs.
A witness at the scene of the fire reports seeing some persons on the eighth level of the Portway Trade Centre building, which is next to a gas station. Staff from the fire department have noted that the building contains multiple offices.
According to sources, a third-degree fire that started in a hoarding on top of the structure eventually spread to include the entire structure.
The chief fire officer reports that the fire has been largely contained, and that firefighters are attempting to enter the building.
To keep the peace, law enforcement agents from the police to the Rangers are stationed there. The Shahrah-e-Quaideen bridge and a gas station next to the structure, according to officials, have both been closed.
“The intensity of the fire on the lower floors of the building has been reduced,” the fire officials confirmed, adding that efforts are underway to extinguish the raging fire on the top floors with the help of a snorkel.
