According to authorities, the man responsible for a string of sex assaults at a Virginia park frequented by children was apprehended lurking near the area and then attempting to flee half-naked.
According to the Fairfax County Police Department, Felix Antonio Mejias Vigil, 35, was seen walking about Franconia Park on Thursday evening by a surveillance camera.
Vigil matched the description of the serial sex offender who had been exposing himself in the park during July and September, according to investigators, so Franconia and Mount Vernon officers raced to the location.
Authorities added that when Vigil attempted to run, he began stripping naked and dumping his clothes in the woods.
Vigil of Fairfax was swiftly apprehended, his upper layer of clothing missing.Police suspect Vigil is responsible for a number of sex offenses, including public masturbating, that occurred at or near the park, which is home to the Chessie’s Big Backyard children’s playground.
During the summer, cops observed a man masturbating in public on Telegraph Road, which is also near to the VHBC Preschool.
Then, on July 28, a report was received of a sex offender engaging in “indecent liberties” with a kid at the adjacent Virginia Hills Swim Club.
On September 19 and 22, the sex offender struck again at the same location on Telegraph Road.
Furthermore, on September 22, the suspect was seen masturbating in public on Diana Lane, a little lane that goes to the Virginia Hills School.
Vigil was charged with two charges of indecent liberties with a child under the age of 15, four counts of actual or feigned masturbating in public, and two counts of providing fake identification to police authorities.
He is being jailed without bail at the Adult Detention Center.
This isn’t the first time Fairfax County Police have had to deal with a serial sex offender stalking a popular public playground.
Juan Rodriguez Alfaro was jailed last year for frightening women and girls in at least 21 separate assault and sexual abuse instances along the Washington and Old Dominion Trail.
Alfaro was recognized as an undocumented Honduran immigrant who was wanted in New York for assaulting a jogger.
