A girl with OCD did herself proud by getting into her “dream university.”
The Wrexham, Wales, native, 19, has secured a spot at University College London, where she will begin studying for a degree in Classical Archaeology and Classical Civilization in September. After she finished her studies in drama, media, classical civilization, and biology at Coleg Cambria Yale, she received the joyful news.
OCD sufferer Faith used the chance to raise awareness for the condition by having her father, Matthew, document her journey on camera. Faith said she will continue to share her story despite going five years without receiving an OCD diagnosis.
Her video earned her the prestigious title of BBC Wales Young Reporter of the Year in 2021 after being seen more than 120,000 times on the organization’s Facebook page. She expressed her gratitude to the Cambria faculty, staff, and students for their support and acknowledged her parents, Donna-Marie, her sister Evie, and herself as a constant source of inspiration.
“I’ll definitely keep writing and sharing my story, especially for the many young people across the country who may be going through the same thing – it does help to know others are there for you and are able to help.”
“UCL is my dream university so despite receiving offers from other places in the UK there was only one place I was ever going to go.”
She added: “I did a summer school with the Sutton Trust and Cambridge University last summer which really helped me narrow down archaeology as the right path for me, and then in the September I spent a week volunteering at the Roman Rossett dig with Wrexham Museum and Chester University.
“I’m not sure where the subject will take me but I’m happy to work in anything to do with heritage, conservation, academia, or fieldwork. I guess I’ll see what happens, I just can’t wait to get started.”
However, Faith’s studies won’t be the only thing keeping her busy over the following year. She was chosen to represent her city in the forthcoming Miss Teen GB pageant, and the college is paying for her entry fee.
