Most people prefer to concentrate on the visual component of bird watching. People often find themselves mesmerized by the colorful patterns, huge wingspan, and elegant motions. Also, it explains why bird watching is such a fascinating activity. But, there is a bird in the world with a startling gift that extends beyond its appearance. The Shoebill stork has an amazing and maybe frightful voice for a bird that resembles something out of the prehistoric age. It’s not the most traditionally appealing bird out there with its large beak, beady eyes, and fluffy head. Nonetheless, the majority of people will choose to listen to it because of its voice. The Shoebill stork makes a peculiar yet mesmerizing sound that is distinctive and surprising.
The video, which has gone viral on social media, shows a Shoebill stork making a succession of unsettling noises that are suspiciously like a machine gun going off. It goes without saying that it is the last thing anybody would anticipate coming from a bird’s beak, yet that is precisely why it is so interesting. In fact, it becomes increasingly clear that this isn’t some editing that was done to make the bird sound like that as it approaches the camera. That voice range is indeed there in the million-year-old organism.

I imagine that's how a raptor sounded. Or maybe I watched too much Jurassic Park?

This is one of the few things I really thank the internet for…I had never heard of the shoebill stork until a few years ago when a video went viral. I would have sworn on a bible it was animatronic. 🥰

The Shoebill Stork is fascinating and majestic in a prehistoric kinda way…but if I was ever camping in Africa and heard that sound, pretty sure I'd become the first human to fly home unassisted *flaps arms* 😅😳
Fun fact: Shoebills can grow to 5ft tall & can fly

It should not come as a surprise that the bird, also known as Balaeniceps rex, is thought to be connected to dinosaurs given its looks.
