After her body was discovered in a regional NSW forest, the search for a missing mother came to an unfortunate end.
After hiking with her companion at Federal Falls on Mount Canobolas near Orange in the state’s Central West, Esther Wallace, 47, disappeared early on November 30.
Police discovered Ms. Wallace’s body on Sunday afternoon around 2 kilometres from where she vanished.
The cause of her death is not being investigated.
On Wednesday at one in the morning, the two had set out on the hike to see the sunrise before being separated.
In the days that followed, police teams and emergency services conducted a thorough search to try to locate Ms. Wallace.
The police rescue and bomb disposal team, PolAir, the dog unit, Chifley rural crime investigators, and officers from surrounding districts were all involved in the investigation.
They received assistance from volunteers, the NSW SES, the NSW RFS, the Cabonne Council, the NSW Parks and Wildlife Service, the Westpac rescue helicopter, Forestry NSW, and Bush Search and Rescue (BSAR).
