Eric Jacksonthe host of Eric in the Evening jazz broadcast on GBH Radio since 1981, died Saturday morning. He was 72.
Upon his passing, GBH released the following statement: “Eric had a well-deserved reputation as the “Dean of Boston Jazz Radio.” He captivated audiences in Boston and all over the world for more than 50 years with his unequalled expertise in jazz and the development of African American music. In 1977, Eric became a regular host for GBH and soon became one of the most well-liked and educated on-air characters in public radio. He taught us all about music and shared his passion for it, serving as an inspiration for upcoming generations of performers, broadcasters, and music fans. Eric, we appreciate you sharing your love of music with us.”
“Eric’s great skill as a broadcaster was how he used his warmth and intimate knowledge to connect listeners to the music. He was a legend and he will be missed,” said Anthony Rudel, General Manager of GBH Music.
Jackson was born in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1950.
