A teacher has been placed under custody on suspicion of sending offensive images to a 16-year-old student.
Following reports that a second student at the school had discovered the truth, Emily Swinkowski, a 27-year-old art teacher from Mississippi in the US, discovered that she was the target of the accusations. She is currently being prosecuted for allegedly giving a student pictures of herself in her underwear.
She was detained while employed at Water Valley High School after a fellow student gave the administration a tip. District Attorney Jay Hale said that after that, the principal called the police.
After that, she submitted her resignation and turned herself in to the police; she is currently free on a $50,000 bond, or £39,000. She is merely the most recent example of improper interactions between teachers and students in the United States.
Speaking to Law & Crime, former FBI Special Agent and CIA Officer Tracy Walder explained: “I do wonder if part of it is this excitement of having that kind of power over an individual, which is pretty gross”.
She has also worked as a teacher and noted her confusion about the matter on the outlet’s YouTube channel. “I even teach college, and it has never occurred to me to do something like that, literally ever.”
Darkly, she added: “I think some people are getting into the job to be predators, it’s frustrating – I don’t think everyone is because I’m a teacher myself and I don’t want teachers to be attacked.”
