Elon Musk’s ex-college girlfriend Jennifer Gwynne raised $165,000 by auctioning off mementos and pictures from their time together in order to cover the cost of her stepson’s college tuition.
A 14k-gold necklace that Elon Musk gave to South Carolina woman Jennifer Gwynne in 1994 sold for $51,008 in addition to a birthday letter from the Tesla entrepreneur, in which he refers to her as “Boo-Boo,” which was put up for sale for $16,643.
Additionally, Gwynne sold 18 different pictures of her and Musk from their University of Pennsylvania courtship, including pictures of them dining out and having a good time with friends.
In 1994, while they were both resident advisers in the same dorm, the couple dated for a year. After graduating and relocating to California, Musk ended things because, in Musk’s words, continuing to talk on the phone seemed like a waste of time.
We split up just as he was beginning to rule the globe,’ Gwynne remarked.
In one image from May 1995, Musk and Gwynne are seen cuddling up on a bench outside the university’s freshman residences. The price was $2,733.
According to the auction agency RR Auction, Musk’s mother Maye took the picture. She snapped the picture while travelling to Philadelphia to see her son.
The entire vacation was a great present from Maye, as I recall, the three of us were intending to drive to NYC to watch the musical “Tommy,” Gwynne said to the auction firm.
But just as we were about to leave, Elon’s automobile suffered a breakdown. As a result, we spent almost five hours in an auto parts store so Elon could handle the problem personally. He did. We arrived in New York City and had a great time.

According to Gwynne’s description on the auction house’s website, “We were going out to watch Pulp Fiction on one of our first dates off campus.”
The software titan changed his Twitter profile image to one of those of him that are up for sale in an apparent gesture of support, even though he hasn’t spoken to his college love in 27 years since they split up.
The image depicts a 23-year-old Musk from 1994 in a fourth-floor study hall of one of the Quad towers at the University of Pennsylvania wearing a Judge Dredd t-shirt. $9,375 was paid for it.
After reading about an auction of test papers that Musk had graded with a simple “EM,” Gwynne got the idea to auction off the photos and items, which she had carefully stored for many years.
She understood that the souvenirs she was holding would be much more valuable to fans of the richest guy in the world.
