Elinor O’Brien has been identified as the young woman who passed away after being stabbed in an apartment block in the heart of Manchester.

Paramedics discovered a 22-year-old woman injured and unresponsive inside a building on Tuesday, August 16. As a result, police were called to the Great Northern Tower on Watson Street.

Despite having been stabbed when she was rushed to the hospital, she has now regrettably passed away. The woman has now been recognised as Ms. O’Brien, and officers with specialised training are assisting her family.

On suspicion of section 18 assault, a 44-year-old male was detained on the spot. He has now been charged with wounding with the intent to cause great bodily damage. On Friday, August 19, Kevin Mannion, 44, of Watson Street, appeared in Manchester Magistrates Court and was remanded in custody.

Since then, tributes have flooded in for the 22-year-old, who was set to turn 23 the following week. Elinor’s acquaintance said: “Elinor was a young, attractive girl who still had her entire life ahead of her. Next week, on August 28, she would have turned 23.

“She was adored by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her, and her contagious grin and laughter brightened the space. Many people’s hearts have been broken.

Another woman wrote on Facebook that Eli was “lovely inside and out” and that she would be missed. taken far too soon. May you now find serenity.

“I genuinely can’t believe what I’m reading,” another person wrote. She was a lovely kid who deserved much more, and you will be sincerely missed. I had the pleasure of working with Elinor for years. Peace be with you, lovely girl.

 

GMP released the following statement: “On Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at approximately 12.30 p.m., Greater Manchester Police received a request for assistance from North West Ambulance Service in response to reports of an injured 22-year-old woman who was reportedly unresponsive at a property on Watson Street in the heart of Manchester.

“Officers attended the scene, and it was quickly established the woman had been stabbed. A 44-year-old male was arrested at the scene on suspicion of a section 18 assault and charged with wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

“Sadly, the 22-year-old woman since passed away and her family are being supported by specially trained officers. Kevin Mannion of Watson Street, Manchester has now been charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm of the 22-year-old woman and appeared at Manchester Magistrates Court on Friday 19 August 2022 and was remanded into custody.”
