A mother was detained when it was claimed that she killed her two small children and left their rotting remains on her bed for two weeks.
At her apartment in Guarapuava, Parana, Brazilian mother Eliara Paz Nardes, 31, is suspected of killing her son Joaquim Nardes Jardins, 3, and daughter Alice Nardes de Oliveira, 9, both of whom were nine years old.
According to police, the bodies of the children were found on Saturday.
After 14 days, Mrs. Nardes supposedly managed a law firm and admitted to killing her children.
Police searched the house after what is thought to have been a lawyer’s notice to the authorities.
According to local sources, the children’s remains were discovered inside the apartment on top of Mrs. Nardez’ bed, wrapped by blankets to mask the scent of their rotting corpses.
The mother reportedly told police that she was no longer able to financially and emotionally support her children.
The fathers of the kids were different.
Ana Hass, a police spokesperson, said: “The kids were sleeping in her room when we first walked inside the flat. The fact that they appeared to be sleeping in the bed belied their actual state, which was one of advanced decomposition and death.
“She said that the daughter was later strangled with a scarf after the boy was suffocated with a pillow, but we are awaiting a report to confirm this. The suspect’s own children would have been the victims of the crimes 14 or 15 days prior.
“She claimed she was very tired and alone, and could no longer afford to raise her children, not just financially but also emotionally.
“As a result, she said she intended to kill herself, but as the children had no one to count on, according to her, she ended up killing them first.”
Since Mrs. Nardes allegedly told authorities that she had slain her children on the same day, there are still questions about the order of events.
Hass asserted that the kid was slain on August 13 and the girl on August 17, respectively, based on the condition of the remains.
If this is established, the girl would have remained with her brother’s body for four days, the woman said.
After the suspected killings, Mrs. Nardes, according to the police, continued to live a regular life, going to work and maintaining a tidy apartment.
