ISLAMABAD: The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has requested a July fuel cost adjustment (FCA) of Rs. 4.69 per unit.
The Agency has requested a price increase for power in a request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) in order to pay for the FCA for July.
A hearing on the subject has been scheduled by NEPRA for August 31.
If the FCA is allowed, consumers would have to pay an additional 65 billion rupees.
It is important to note that many people who use energy protested in the streets the week before, calling on the government to lower their electricity costs. Following the epidemic, the government ordered distribution providers to issue fresh bills that would relieve 60 percent of connections by exempting FCA clients who consumed fewer than 200 units.
The dealers had also rejected the imposition of Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 6,000 fixed tax during August before the indignation of customers on increased FCA. The government repealed the levy after numerous demonstrations and meetings, calling it an error.
