People across the nation have recently expressed their displeasure and outrage at the high cost of their electricity bills, which have increased by up to 80% just in the last 18 months.
According to a national daily, the power tariff has increased by Rs. 15.41 since 2022, and the tax on commercial and residential consumers is 78 percent and over 50 percent, respectively.
The cost of electricity for non-protected domestic users increased by 80%, from Rs. 13.48 last year to Rs. 24.39 this year, a rise of Rs. 10.91 per unit.
Further analysis of the data reveals a 60% increase in bills for up to 200 units. The unit’s price has increased from Rs. 18.95 to Rs. 30.86 from last year.
Additionally, the electricity rate for users who use 300 units a month increased from Rs. 22.14 last year to Rs. 35.04 by Rs. 12.91 per unit.
The power tariff increased by Rs. 14.41 for customers who consume 400 units, bringing the price per unit to Rs. 39.94.
Customers posting consumption of 500 units or more have seen a price increase of Rs. 15.41 per unit over the past 1.5 years. The same tariff, however, has seen a significant increase for customers who purchase 700 units or more in a single billing cycle, rising to Rs. 50.63 per unit.
