On Monday, the electric buses will start running again along two city routes. A media report claims that the government is importing a new charging system from China because the old one began “malfunctioning” a few weeks after it was installed.
At a press conference on Sunday, Sindh Information, Transport, and Mass Transit Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that the new charging system would enable the use of 15 electric buses.
Electric buses on two routes were terminated about two months ago after the battery charger “started malfunctioning,” according to sources.
The minister declared that tomorrow, buses will be back on Karachi’s roads and that electric bus chargers have arrived. As part of the government’s ongoing efforts to improve public transportation, he added that an additional fleet of buses will arrive in Karachi on July 11.
“According to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the [PPP] chairman, and Syed Murad Ali Shah, the chief minister of Sindh, the Sindh government is dedicated to increasing the number of buses in order to improve urban travel amenities. The new buses will soon replace the older ones as part of the same initiative.”
