Turkey’s elections in 2023 saw a remarkable accomplishment as voter turnout exceeded 88 percent, breaking all previous records. This significant achievement demonstrates how enthusiastic and involved the Turkish people are in determining the future of their nation.
According to unofficial results published by the state-run Anadolu Agency, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan won re-election. Erdogan received 52.07 percent of the vote, while Kemal Kilicdaroglu received 47.93 percent after 99 percent of the ballots were counted in the run-off. Erdogan and Kilicdaroglu each received 44.88 percent of the vote in the first round, which was held on May 14.
Nationalist candidate Sinan Ogan received 5.17 percent of the vote in the first round and later endorsed Erdogan for the second round. Out of a total of 64 million eligible voters in Turkey, an impressive 88.84 percent exercised their right to vote in the first round, indicating a high level of voter participation.
