The Mexican drug kingpin Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman’s wife has been granted parole and will now serve the last week of her sentence at home.

In 2007, Guzman wed Emma Coronel Aispuro, a former adolescent beauty queen in the US, in what is believed to be at least El Chapo’s fourth marriage.

The 66-year-old drug kingpin, who was the head of the Sinaloa Cartel, is currently incarcerated in a Florida supermax jail serving a life sentence for a number of serious crimes.

After being detained in February 2021, Coronel entered a plea agreement and was given a three-year prison sentence for narcotics and money laundering offenses.

The mother of two of El Chapo’s children has completed 15 months of her sentence and has now left FMC Carswell in Texas to serve the remaining time at her Los Angeles home.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons informed broadcaster Univision that the development had occurred.

As a condition of her plea deal, Coronel acknowledged operating as a courier for Guzman and other Sinaloa Cartel members while her husband was incarcerated.

These communications, according to the prosecution, were used to organize his daring 2015 jail escape through a covert tunnel from his shower cell.

In 2019, the ex-beauty queen brought their kids to watch El Chapo’s trial.

According to reports, El Chapo addressed the letter to three of his older sons, who he refers to as “El Chapitos.”

According to media outlet Borderland Beat, which claimed to have gotten an unconfirmed copy of the letter, he purportedly penned the letter to his boys while still inside.

“You must think about the future and well-being of the family, but just let everything be done through the lawyers, do not show your faces or the family,” he wrote.

“I do not want you to be like this or to continue like this. Try to fix everything. Remember that no one can be trusted, and everyone is going to try to fix their problems at our expense.”

He said that they needed to think about how what they do will affect “El Raton”, El Chapo’s son who is also being held in a high security prison.

The 33-year-old will have to serve at least 10 years of his life sentence, which he was given this year for a host of drugs charges.

He also told his sons that they needed to trust a lawyer, who was unnamed in the letter, saying that he can “negotiate a good agreement before he accepts any extradition agreement”, seemingly saying that he believes the sons will end up in the US with him.

“Start organising everything and be very careful and discreet so that no one suspects anything. I am very proud of you all ‘mi reyes,’ [my kings] take care of yourselves and do not forget that I love you. We must move fast so that we do not waste any more time,” he added.
