Following the notification of the previous curriculum in 2006, which had been in effect for seventeen years, Pakistan’s Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Education announced the approval of the national curriculum.
The process of creating the curriculum for grades 9 through 12 was inclusive. The new curriculum will be introduced for classes 9 and 11 in 2024 and for classes 10 and 12 in 2025.
Involved parties were consulted at each stage of developing the curriculum. The stakeholders, including decision-makers, academics, practitioners, parents, and students from all over Pakistan, were thoroughly consulted.
In addition to policy dialogues across Pakistan, numerous curriculum workshops were held to gather feedback from the relevant parties. Additionally, everyone involved was encouraged to provide feedback via an online forum.
After regional curriculum workshops were held in each province, a final curriculum workshop was held at the NCC Secretariat in Islamabad.
The curriculum for nine subjects—Urdu, English, Islamiat, Pakistan Studies, math, physics, chemistry, biology, and computer science—was approved by Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan.
Several meetings of the stakeholders were held to ensure the curriculum’s implementation. The curriculum has been announced for the institutions under the Federal Ministries as well as for the Islamabad Capital Territory after careful consideration.
A plan for implementing the notification has also been released. According to their Acts and laws, the provinces will review and notify the curriculum.
